Insensate

Kolkata is well-known as the city of joy, though I am yet to find good reason for this city to deserve this title. The sight of a human pulling the weight of another human(s) on this rickshaw makes me extremely sad. The analogy is that of a human doing the work of an animal. There are people who use avail this without getting bothered. Many among them are fat married Bengali woman, who are unable to carry their own weight. Wish this torture in the name of work comes to an end some day ….

The issue of “a human pulling a rickshaw” has been in discussion for a long time. Generally you will find local residents riding such rickshaws since they are accustomed to it (and it might got something to do with their traditional values and practices). People from outside dont appreciate such practices.

Long ago, French author Dominique Lapierre wrote a book on Kolkata titled ‘City of Joy’ and it became a commonly used term associated with the city.

all over north india are rickshaw wallahs who pull the weight of other human beings.. fat or slim it does not matter the only difference is the difference in design of the two rickshaws. if you analyse the situation properly then there is no difference except the bias in your own mind.
